Lost Cockatoo

Today when we went for our walk, we saw a bird walking on the foot path, it looked lost. It was a beautiful looking bird, it was white with pink on the front of it's body. We were sure it was someone's pet. The turned out it was a Lutino rose-breasted cockatoo.

It was heading our direction and then starting turning towards the busy main road. We didn't want it to get hurt so Mummy and I tried to stand in front of it's way so it wouldn't walk onto the road.

Mummy was too scared to pick it up so we called Mum to come help us. Mum came and pick up the bird and held it while Mummy rang the SPCA.

Unfortunately there were no answer at the SPCA, so Mummy then tried calling the Council. The Council couldn't help us.

Our neighbour also said to post a photo of the bird on the Facebook Mt Roskill Community page. Sure enough we heard from the owner. It belongs to a little girl. Apparently it's been lost for 2 days.

We sat in our car and gave it water while we were waiting for the owner to come pick it up.

We were so happy we found the Cockatoo's owner.

  2. Kia ora Tyler, wow what an adventure. I'm so glad you and whānau were there to look after the manu (bird). The little girl must have been so happy to get her friend back? Did being at level 4 make it even trickier to know what to do?

  3. Kia Ora Tyler. What a wonderful blog! Well done. You were part of so many good things happening. All that problem solving, being caring and thoughtful and not giving up. Thanks for finding out what type of manu (bird) it was. I’m sure you and the girl were both very happy that day!

  5. Wow Tyler. This is a great recount about finding that cockatoo. Lucas showed me pictures of it as well. I know sometimes when you find a lost bird, a good place to call is the bird sanctuary. They take in baby birds or birds that are hurt, and look after them until they are ready to be released. I am glad that the owner was found. It is very lucky your whanau cared for the bird until is was picked up. Do you think you would like to own a cockatoo? Miss Lane
